Pubs, Hotels, Bars and Taverns in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
When the 1931 earthquake and the fires that followed levelled central Napier, the town rebuilt in the Art Deco style of the day. The Masonic Hotel, burnt out after the quake, was rebuilt soon afterwards, and Napier has celebrated its 1930s streetscape with an Art Deco Festival each February since 1988. In Hastings, the Leopard Brewery moved into the hotel trade to sell its beer, opening the Mayfair Hotel in 1960. The region also has the country's oldest existing vineyard, Mission Estate, established in 1851.
