Pubs, Hotels, Bars and Taverns in Nelson, New Zealand
Nelson's settlers wasted little time. The first publicans' licences were issued in April 1842, the same year hops were first grown in the district, and by the 1850s local breweries were tending large hop gardens of their own. More than a century later, Nelson led a different kind of revival: Terry and Beverley McCashin set up in Stoke in 1980, and their Mac's beer, launched in September 1981, is widely seen as the start of New Zealand's modern craft brewing. The family still brews there.
